Vetiver is the first fragrance for men by Carven. It was launched in 1957, reedited in 1997 and launched again recently in 2009. The first fragrance was created by Edouard Hache, while designer of the original flacon was Jacques Bocquet. Composition of the 1957 included lemon, lavender, nutmeg, mandarin and petit grain oil in top notes. A heart was composed of vetiver, cedar, bergamot, jasmine, carnation, iris root and sandalwood, while base notes incorporated amber, musk, moss and myrrh.
The new, 2009 edition, Le Vetiver is based on the old formula and encompasses natural materials of high quality. New owners of the house are authorized to relaunch this fragrance under the new name.Top notes are blossoming with mint, geranium, mandarin, lavender and absinth, a heart adds aromas of vetiver from Haiti, Dutch jinn, cold spices and patchouli, finishing with labdanum and musk.
Its flacon is more modern (on main photo), coloured in white, with a stopper of grey wood resembling vetiver root. Creator is art director of the house, Ludovic Alban. The fragrance is available as 50 and 100ml edp.
Soir De Lune is the first from Sisley Paris in 15 years. In translation, Soir Se Lune means “The Evening Of The Moon”. It is a modern floral, woodsy scent with floral notes of rose, mimosa absolute, jasmine, lily of the valley, and iris. Fruity notes of mandarin, lemon, and peach. Woodsy, sensual notes of bergamot, coriander, nutmeg, sandalwood, tree moss, and patchouli. Packaged in an exquisite bottle designed by Polish artist Bronislaw Krzysztof with a silver metal moon cap.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s next fragrance, due to launch in February, will be SJP NYC. The scent, a fruity floral, is meant to tie in with Parker’s upcoming Sex and the City movie (due out in May), and to reflect the character she plays, Carrie Bradshaw.
SJP NYC was developed by perfumer Honorine Blanc; the notes include mandarin, white osmanthus, strawberry, gardenia, honeysuckle, mimosa, rose, sandalwood, vanilla absolute, rum flavor and creamy musks. Per Sarah Jessica Parker…
The reason it surprises me is because I have this idea in my head that strawberry is very youthful and juvenile, but this fragrance doesn’t smell candy sweet. It amazes me that this essence of strawberry mixes so beautifully with the more sophisticated floral notes and the musks that I love and will always have as part of my fragrances. In a million years I would never think, ‘Let’s work around strawberry.’
Roberto Verino has launched Roberto Verino Gold, a new woody floriental fragrance for women. Gold is for the woman who is “naturally elegant, without showing off, but with the charming aloofness of one who is effortlessly stylish”.
Gold was developed by perfumer Olivier Polge; the notes include bergamot, gardenia, rose, jasmine, orris root, white peony, sandalwood, tonka bean, patchouli, musk and white amber.
Roberto Verino Gold is available in 30, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Parfum.
Reality TV show popular actress Kim Kardashian has now a completed product: her eponymous, debut fragrance.
The fragrance was created by perfumer Claude Dir of Givaudan. He reportedly presented her with 7 possibilities initially based on her expressed likes and dislikes. Then she declared that she liked the top notes here, the heart notes there and a better blend was concocted using her pointers. Tuberose and gardenia are two must-have notes of hers. She said: “I wanted something rich and creamy and sexy, but still youthful,”
The final composition includes “crisp top notes, a heart of jasmine, tuberose and gardenia, and a drydown of tonka bean, jacaranda wood and sandalwood.
Cacharel will launch Scarlett, a new perfume geared to young women between 15 and 25, this coming July. Scarlett is a reference to actress Scarlett Johansson and to the heroine of the iconic novel and film Gone With The Wind.
Scarlett was developed by perfumers Honorine Blanc, Alberto Morillas and Olivier Cresp. The notes include tea leaves, citrus, pear, jasmine, orange blossom, honeysuckle, white musk and sandalwood.
Cacharel Scarlett will be available in sizes ranging from 35 to 80 ml Eau de Toilette.
