Continuing to rake in the accolades, Beyonce Knowles was a big winner at Billboard’s 4th Annual Women in Music event in Midtown Manhattan on Friday (October 2).
Fresh off of a weekend trip to Singapore, the “Irreplaceable” songstress looked stunning as she accepted her trophy after being named Billboard’s Woman of the Year.
During the afternoon affair, Billboard’s Editorial Director, Bill Werde, introduced the hitmaker, telling attendees, “It is theoretically possible someone on some other planet had a better year than Beyonce, but I’m not buying it.”
While making her way through the press line, Miss Knowles was asked her thoughts on Kanye West, replying, “Everyone makes mistakes. It’s unfortunate, but he’s a good person. And I think its important to stand by friends.”
Pop star Beyonce is set to launch her own fragrance after linking up with leading beauty company, Coty.
Sales will initially be limited to North and South America, but the product should arrive in Europe later on in 2010.
Marketing plans for the fragrance are currently “in development.”
Renato Semerari, Coty Beauty president , says: “Beyonce holds a unique cross-generational and cross-continental appeal that is a perfect fit for a new global Coty fragrance,” said. “With her powerful ability to capture the attention of the world she is a role model for women of all ages.”
The yet-to-be-named scent is scheduled to launch early next year and will “embody the soul of Beyonce’s persona”.
This week, Beyonce was at the centre of the ‘Kanye-Gate’ furore at the MTV awards. During country singer Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for ‘best female video’, rapper Kanye West stormed the stage, took the microphone and ranted that his friend Beyonce had been “robbed” of the award.
On accepting the best music video award later in the evening, Beyonce called Swift up on stage to allow her to give her acceptance speech uninterrupted.
Earlier this year Coty signed a deal to develop a range of fragrances with singer Gwen Stefani.
Last night’s shindig was memorable for its good points as well as a few snafus.
Kicking off the show, Madonna gave a monologue about Michael Jackson that was followed by a high-energy tribute to the fallen King of Pop, complete with a performance by Janet Jackson.
And during the Best Female Video Award portion, Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech was cut off by Kanye West, who insisted that Beyonce Knowles should’ve won the trophy.
As for live performances, this year’s show was action-packed, with everyone from Green Day to Lady GaGa to Pink taking the stage. As a grand finale, Jay-Z showed up for a duet with Alicia Keys.
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards winners were:
Video of the Year: Beyonce “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”
Best New Artist: Lady GaGa “Poker Face”
Best Hip Hop Video: Eminem “We Made You”
Best Male Video: T.I. featuring Rihanna “Live Your Life”
Best Pop Video: Britney Spears “Womanizer”
Best Rock Video: Green Day “21 Guns”
Best Female Video: Taylor Swift “You Belong with Me”
Best Video [That Should Have Won a Moonman]: Beastie Boys “Sabotage”
It was one of the most awkward moments of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for her Best Female Video award, and declared that he thought Beyonce Knowles should’ve won.
And in the aftermath of the evening’s events, the “Love Lockdown” rapper apparently saw the error of his ways, as he issued an apology to the 17-year-old country singer.
Via his blog, Kanye repented, saying, “I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom [Andrea]. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she’s in the bleachers! I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment!”
He continued, “Beyonce’s video was the best of this decade!!! I’m sorry to my fans if I let you guys down!!!!! I’m sorry to my friends at MTV. I will apologize to Taylor 2mrw. Welcome to the real world!!!! Everybody wanna booooo me but I’m a fan of real pop culture!!! No disrespect but we watchin’ the show at the cribe right now cause…. Well you know!!!! I’m still happy for Taylor!!!! Boooyaawww!!!! You are very talented!!!!! I gave my awards to Outkast when they deserved it over me… That’s what it is!!!! I’m not crazy yall, I’m just real. Sorry for that!!! I really feel bad for Taylor and I’m sincerely sorry!!! Much Respect!!!!!”
Taking home the big prize of the evening, Beyonce Knowles was chosen for Video of the Year for “Single Ladies” at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night (September 13).
Ever the gracious winner, Miss Knowles kindly invited Taylor Swift onstage upon receiving her moonman – making up for Kanye West’s rude interruption earlier in the night.

Miss Swift previously was in the middle of accepting her award for Best Female Video – besting Beyonce – when she was interrupted by Kanye West.
While Kanye announced that Beyonce should have won, Miss Swift let bygones be bygones, but happily took the stage beside Knowles later in the evening to thank those who helped out with her hit video.
Fresh from a world tour, Lady GaGa was all about showing the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards her performing prowess.
The “Poker Face” diva was nothing short of outstanding as she took the stage for a memorable and dramatic rendition of her latest hit “Paparazzi.”

And true to form, GaGa took things to the extreme by simulating a self-hanging scenario, complete with fake facial blood.
Lady GaGa joined the illustrious list of VMA performers including Green Day, Beyonce Knowles, Taylor Swift, and Janet Jackson.
She’s made quite the name for herself over the years, and Beyonce Knowles currently finds herself atop of the music world as she celebrates her 28th birthday yesterday (September 4).
Aside from rejoicing her successful first 27 years of living, the “Irreplaceable” songstress currently gearing up for next weekend –finding herself nominated for nine MTV VMA trophies during a ceremony to be held next Sunday (September 13).
Meanwhile, Beyonce’s hubby, Jay-Z, has been promoting his upcoming album, “The Blueprint 3,” which will be released on September 11th.
While doing an interview for Oprah’s O Magazine, the hip-hop mogul dished a few details about he and Beyonce’s romantic doings, saying, “I’m gonna get killed for this, but I’ll tell you anyway.
There’s a great pizza spot we go to every Sunday. It’s our tradition. It’s a small place in Brooklyn, you can bring your own wine, and there are candles there. It’s a nice date.”
